What do you think of this fabric?

I have this fabric:

And I want to make the vest in the top picture of this pattern (sorry, bad scan):

Now, the question is: do you think my red corduroy fabric looks too festive/holiday (i.e. dorky) for a vest? I was trying to get the color of the one in the pattern, which looks a hair lighter than what I have. Dad suggested I wash it in hot water and/or put a couple drops of bleach in the water, but I don't know. I might just look for more. Or maybe I'm just being paranoid.

And a black skirt

I know it's boring, but I really wanted a just-above-the-knee black skirt that I could wear with knee hi socks. I might remake it using another pattern, this one turned out more circle skirt-ish and less A-line (which is what I actually wanted). I had such a HARD time with the hem, it kept making the skirt puffy (I'm thinking about saving up for a serger to make hems easier). So in the end, I just put bias tape around the raw edges.

My Purple Dress

Here's a dress I finished a couple weeks ago, it's just been sitting on the sewing machine waiting to be ironed. I'm not so sure about the tie belt I made, so I would like to know what you think. In case you can't tell, it's a purple pinstripe seersucker fabric. I got it at Stitches. I put some purple piping in it, too (the first time I've used piping and I love it!) I'll put a close-up so you can see the belt. You can't really see the fabric much better but oh well. It's too bad I can't wear the dress for another seven months.
